Title: South By East: Notes of Travel in Southern Europe
Title’s Included: N/A
Author: G.F. Rodwell - Science Master in Marlborough College
Publisher: Marcus Ward & Co.
Year: 1877
Binding: Leather
No. of Pages: 274
Condition: This is a beautiful leather bound first edition. The cover does show signs of wear and rubbing/scratches to the leather, particularly down the spine. There is also a small partial tear at the top of the spine. There is a gilt design both on the spine and a coat of arms on the front cover. The motto on the coat of arms banner reads "STET FORTUNA DOMVS" which is Latin for "Let the fortune of the house stand" or May the house's fortune endure". All pages are present however, the inside front page and plate have become detached. There is a name plate on on the inside cover. Pages are generally in very good condition with gilt edges and minor tanning. There is no foxing.
Generally the book is in very good condition and any wear is commensurate with its age and use, but does not detract from the beauty of the book itself. This would make a fabulous addition to any collection.
